WILMINGTON -- Before the summer rush to the beach...some local groups want you to help clean it up.
Maid Two Clean, along with Keep America Beautiful and the Surf Rider Foundation are kicking off a summer long beach clean up project this weekend.
If you want to help keep the beaches looking beautiful just head out to the north end of Carolina Beach on Saturday.

Beach cleanup
Why not ask all the developers to clean up the mess they have left behind from construction. Since they mostly had plywood dumpsters with no lids to dump the trash then during a wind the trash would just blow everywhere, watched it happen & picked up too, especially at Carolina Beach. How about the Chamber of Commerce who host the weekly firework shows during the summer watching firework debris (cardboard, split wires) fly all over the beach leaving an enormous mess every week and don't clean up right away, they say because it's dark and they have to wait till another day. Why not have all those employees cleaning the beach. After the 4th of July fireworks, it was very windy, & debris from that show blew all the way to 3rd Street. Have the owners/employees of the hotels, motels & highrises cleaning the beach. Pass a trash bag to every tourist because they are big polluters, watched them pollute too & gave the trash back to them, the parents laughed at me in front of the kids, stated they were on vacation & could leave their trash wherever they wanted. Start charging folks a trash pickup fee for walking onto the beach & for everyone that rents on the beach to cover the costs of picking up trash.
