WILMINGTON -- It's a busy week for the crew members of the USS North Carolina submarine. They visited the New Hanover County Senior Center Wednesday.
They swapped stories with veterans, answered questions, and handed out Navy mugs and beads. Capt. Mark Davis also spoke to the group.
Veteran Francis Houts said he wanted to meet the crew members to hear what they had to say about working onboard as well as to learn about the nuclear sub's technology.
"They're very different from what I knew when I was in the army," Houts said. "The technology is just beyond belief. So I'm not sure that if us old guys could have made it in the modern military."
Petty Officer Ben Bruner said, "It's almost gratifying to hear what these people have done, especially with the World War II veterans, Vietnam veterans. It's really great to hear their stories and the actual events they've been through."
