101-year-old woman mugged, Wilmington Senior Center considers self-defense course

READ MORE:
WILMINGTON -- Rose Morat, 101-years-old, was leaving her New York apartment. Suddenly a man attacks her hitting her repeatedly. Next the mugger empties thirty-three dollars from her purse then punches her to the ground. After seeing what happened to Morat, the Senior Living Center in Wilmington is considering adding a self defense course. “I think with what has happened the seniors would like to have something like that in addition to aerobics.” Annette Crumpton runs the center where hundreds of seniors go to stay active. “The exercises you do strengthens the arms and the legs, certainly would be important if safety were an issue.” Seventy-six-year-old Rachel Huffenberg says she tries to be aware of her surroundings when she’s walking to her car she relies on her car alarm to protect her. “If I'm out say in a parking lot at the mall I always make sure I have my remote control.” Crumpton believes seniors should never go out alone. “I always say be with a group, try not to go out by yourself.” Good advice to keep you safe.
