Soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan are one step closer to having their college education funded by the government.

The senate voted yesterday on the 2008 Supplemental Appropriations Act -- informally known as the new G.I. Bill.

It passed with flying colors -- 92 votes to six.

Both North Carolina Senators Dole and Burr voted yes.

The bill allocates $50 billion over the next 10 years to cover a soldier's entire tuition cost at any state university.

If it gets the presidents signature, the bill becomes law.
