WILMINGTON -- Within the last four months three deadly tornadoes have hit the US, including the twister that devastated Riegelwood in November. Wednesday schools across the state took action. Students learned what to do if a tornado strikes. Teachers at Bradley Creek Elementary say drills are essential so in the chaotic event that a tornado hit, kids will know what to do quickly, quietly and safely. Bradley Creek Elementary student Abby Hill said, "We have to put our hands over our head, like that, and put our head against the wall. And our teacher said if we see anyone talking, trying to talk to us, we just look at them like shhhh." National Weather Service officials say people living in small homes and trailers should practice tornado drills with their families. You may also want to purchase a weather radio and fresh batteries.
