White powder negative at Edwards' campaign headquarters

READ MORE:

CHAPEL HILL (AP) -- A white powder found in a letter at the campaign headquarters of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards came back negative.

Edwards' deputy campaign manager Jonathan Prince released a statement this morning saying the Chapel Hill office is reopening.

The offices were evacuated yesterday after a staff member opened the letter and found the powder. Campaign employees worked from home.

White powder in letters has been associated with anthrax after an attack in 2001 killed five people and sickened 17.

The substance was mailed to lawmakers on Capitol Hill and members of the news media in New York and Florida just weeks after the September 11th terrorist attacks.
