GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- A 25-year-old man from Wilmington has pleaded guilty to federal charges accusing him of building a bomb and detonating it at an apartment.
The blast in June 2005 caused damage but no injuries.
Joshua Christian Hoyt pleaded guilty to maliciously damaging property by means of fire and explosive and manufacturing a destructive device and illegal firearms. No sentencing date was set.
Federal investigators say Hoyt planned to detonate a bomb outside his neighbors' apartment with the intent of killing them. He would then wait outside the apartment and shoot bystanders as they fled the building.
