WILMINGTON -- There are new questions about the UNCW student robbed of two PlayStation 3s back in November.
The robbery sparked the investigation into 18-year-old Peyton Strickland, which set off a time-line of events in which Strickland died and left the deputy who killed him under investigation.
We recently obtained the 911 call from the night of the PlayStation robbery. In it are some discrepancies from what the media has been told so far.
"I had two PlayStations 3s in my car, and I parked my car and four guys jumped me and stole my PlayStation 3s," Raines said.
UNCW student Justin Raines says he thought the men followed him home from a Wilmington Wal-Mart after he bought the gaming systems last November 17.
Raines said, "They had a knife… I only saw one knife; there were four guys… They were in, I think, a gold, four-door coupe."
Since the robbery, police have listed the robbery weapon as a blunt object.
Raines: Uh, I'm fine.
Dispatch: Did they hit you at all with the knife, did they hurt you?
Raines: Yeah, they hit me in the head quite a few times.
Dispatch: Do you need an ambulance?
Raines: No, I don't need an ambulance.
When asked if he had seen his attackers before Raines said, "I didn't recognize them, no." Police say someone did recognize the suspects: 18-year-old Peyton Strickland, 20-year-old Ryan Mills and 21-year-old Braden Riley.
But what about the fourth suspect?
UNCW Police Chief David Donaldson refused to comment on whether a fourth person was involved. He also refused to say if Raines's attackers used a knife during the alleged robbery.
Ryan Mills and Braden Riley are the only two suspects officially charged. Peyton Strickland was killed December 1 while the New Hanover County emergency response team tried to serve arrest and search warrants.
