WILMINGTON -- Educators in New Hanover County are trying to close a gap in teacher shortages at area schools. They held an education job fair at UNCW with New Hanover County school officials, administrators and teachers.
The mission is to attract aspiring teachers to fill vacant positions in county schools.
Organizers say it's a great opportunity for many UNCW students to get a head-start on their careers.
Education job fair director Susan Hahn said, "They get to meet the principals at the schools. A lot of them bring teachers with them, so they can talk with the teachers and get a feel for the school. And as a teacher coming out, this lets you look at each school and decide which one looks to be the right one for you."
School officials say although the job fair was a one-day event, employment recruiters are always on-hand.
Aspiring teachers could also find out about jobs at the school district's headquarters on Carolina Beach Road.
