CHARLOTTE (AP) -- The Carolina Panthers signed linebacker Terrence Melton and defensive tackle Stephen Williams to free-agent deals today.
Melton was a restricted free-agent who wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by New Orleans. He played mostly on special teams last season with the Saints, recording 24 tackles.
The 30-year-old Melton has played in 34 games with two starts in three N-F-L seasons.
Williams, who's 25, split last season between Kansas City's active roster and the team's practice squad. He played in 11 games and had seven tackles and one fumble recovery.
The Chiefs waived Williams last month.
The Panthers have yet to make a significant move in free agency, something general manager Marty Hurney predicted with 21 of 22 starters under contract for next season.
