Some Pender Memorial Hospital patients are sleeping a bit easier these days.

The hospital has 28 new beds for its assisted living residents thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Cannon Foundation.

The new electronic beds can be lowered or raised for easy maneuvering. A flip of a switch can also keep the beds from moving around.

Patients say they sleep well, too.

Resident Louise Hardison said, "Oh I like the new beds, particularly at the way you can adjust it to fit your body, and it's very, very comfortable."

The bed's "low rise" feature has reduced the risk for falls.
