BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- Authorities are on the lookout for a man they say was involved in a kidnapping in Brunswick County.
Early Wednesday morning Brunswick County Sheriff's officials say they received a disturbing phone call. They say a woman dialed 911, pleading for authorities to find her roommate, who had been kidnapped.
Brunswick County Sheriff Ron Hewett says a little after 9:20 Wednesday morning a woman living at Cloverleaf Estates -- a mobile home park off of Mt. Misery Road in Leland -- called to alert authorities that 38-year-old Miguel Angel Corpus Cortez kidnapped her roommate at gunpoint.
Investigators responded to the home, at which point they say they began receiving taunting phone calls from Cortez and his victim.
Sheriff Hewett said, "The female victim advised that she was being beaten, that her life was being threatened. That the suspect in question had at least two handguns and stated that he would not be taken alive"
Hewett says not too long afterwards he believes Cortez attempted to return to the mobile home park, but realized the area was surrounded.
Cortez then released the victim nearby.
She was checked out by EMS and authorities say she's now at a safe, undisclosed location.
Cortez is still on the run tonight.
Authorities say he was last seen in a late model silver, four-door pickup truck heading towards the Wilmington area.
They urge anyone who knows anything about this man or the case to contact Brunswick County authorities at 910-253-2777.
