FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Military officials have announced the death of a North Carolina-based soldier serving in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense said on Wednesday that 32-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Carlos M. Santos-Silva of Clarksville, Tenn., died March 22 in Kandahar province of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.
Santos-Silva was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
