People in our area are wasting no time heading to the polls. At the New Hanover County Senior Center, many voters said they waited in line for more than a half hour to cast their ballot. One stop voting started a week ago, and already polling locations here and across North Carolina are reporting high voter turn out. Some one stop voters at the senior center said, while the wait was long, it was well worth it to avoid even longer lines on Election Day.

Open hours to accomodate general worktimes

The one-stop voting is a good idea. The biggest problem that I see are the hours of operation. M-F 9-4, Sat, 9-11. Who in the heck are these hours supposed to accomodate, welfare and the unemployed? The lazy ones on their way to pick up their food stamps? These hours are in no way conducive to your average working person in this town. My bank has more convenient hours than this and they aren't by any means convenient. It would seem that if they really want to assist people in getting to vote, don't cost them work time to go do it. How about trying 1-7 pm M-F and 10-4 on Sat? It really seems to me that these voting hours are targeted towards certain people in certain economic situations. Perhaps the same ones that really believe that this election will get them something for free???
