ONLY ON 3: D.A. Gore won't answer our questions but has time to send news release on guilty plea

READ MORE:

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) - Seems District Attorney Rex Gore has time to celebrate wins, but no time to answer tough questions about decisions his Assistant District Attorneys are making in Brunswick County. Decisions that are putting dangerous people back on the streets and costing taxpayers thousands of dollars.

While we've made repeated requests to Gore over the past few weeks, the elected official continues to ignore us.

But today, less than 12 hours after highlighting an apparent blunder by Assistant DA Meredith Everhart regarding a rape case that now has to be sent all the way back to the grand jury and has cost taxpayers thousands of dollars already, Gore sent out a news release highlighting a case Everhardt prosecuted Monday where the defendant pleaded guilty.

Here's the news release:
Frank Elmore Gore, 22, of Willard, North Carolina, pled guilty on Monday in Brunswick County Superior Court to 1 count of Attempted 1st Degree Sex Offense against an 11 year old cousin, who lives in Leland. Assistant District Attorney Meredith Everhart stated in court during the plea that the victim initially disclosed the abuse to her therapist, whom the victim was already seeing as the result of prior sexual abuse by her step-father. The step-father is currently serving a 16 – 20 year prison sentence after pleading to multiple charges earlier this year. Gore received a sentence of 94 – 122 months, which is approximately 7 ½ - 10 years. He will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, and he will have to enroll in satellite monitoring for his entire life as well.

Miss Everhart Needs A New Job!

I don't think this article has so much to do about Rex Gore as it does about ADA Meredith Everhart. She acts like she is out for justice but she is only concerned with her own agendas. Miss Everhart is either so jaded that she can't look at a case objectively or she is only concerned with anything she can do for her own gain. This article is only one more example of how she handles her cases. I was a victim of sexual abuse as a child and normally I would always stand behind a victim but in the past few years I have watched Miss Everhart ignore evidence that would clear a guy falsely accused of rape, refuse to release HER Discovery because it proved him not guilty, and lie to the courts to make her case even when she knew the evidence showed her so called victim was not telling the truth. I pray for her because she has lost the ability to do what is right so that she can save face. Shame on her and Shame on the DA's office for letting her do whatever she wants without caring about getting to the truth!

Miss Meredith Noheart

This Was Beautifully Said Could Not Have Said It Any Better Myself Thank You!!!!

What was the purpose of

What was the purpose of putting Frank Gore in this story. From what i understand, he signed a guilty plea the day before so what was Merideth Everhardt's point in speaking on it in court after he already signed his plea. Everything comes to the light eventually and everything cames back around she will have her judgement day.

Obviously?

The only thing obvious here is that the people in Brunswick County have a DA who runs his office like he can't wait to get out of town.

Give It A Rest

... give it a rest. Rex is leaving office very soon, it does seem like lately you guys got him and his office under a microscope. I don't blame him for not commenting or talking to you guys, you guys are beginning to act like that irritating fly that's buzzing around and will not go away. Will you guys do the same to Butch Pope if he and his office do similar things?

He probably won't answer

He probably won't answer because WWAY has become Wilmington's local tabloid news station. How many cases go through the Brunswick County DA's office every year? And how many of those would you guess are disposed of in an appropriate manner? Sure, some mistakes are going to be made, as in any occupation. Your station chooses to beat these cases to death, demanding answers, without considering the overall success rate of the organization.

Now, I don't particulary like Mr. Gore, but ADA's all across the state tend to be overworked. They are struggling to keep up with an overwhelming crush of cases, and have to rely on the state to provide funding to hire prosecutors. The state isn't exactly generous in awarding new positions these days. The fact that you guys are trying to crucify these overworked state employees is misguided. They are doing the best they can with the resources given them by the powers that be in Raleigh. The correct place to ask for answers is the NC legislators and Governor Perdue, who approve the state budget and thereby control the number of prosecutors assigned to each county.

You guys started going downhill a while ago. The best example I can think of is when you had a news crew stalking Kate Gosselin at Elijah's. Your headline for that story was "Jon & Kate Plus Eight Stars Dine Downtown." That was news journalism at it's finest (with much sarcasm). Maybe you should simulcast your news broadcast on TMZ.

Obviously

there has to be something personal going on here between some member of the news staff and the DA's office. There are MANY elected officials, local, state, and federal, that are failing to do their jobs, but they are not called out by the local news the way the DA has been here. I don't know the DA, and based on what I know of him, I haven't particularly cared for him. What I do know is that the judicial system in this country is far from perfect. Rarely do cases ever go as smoothly as an episode of Matlock. Why the choice now to go after an outgoing official? Why are there no front page letters to our incompetent governor and lawmakers about tax increases, budget cuts for schools and essential services, tax payer's money being wasted on pet projects, misappropriated revenue from the lottery, etc, etc, etc? This smells of a personal vendetta to me.

I think Mr. Gore

is making his position perfectly clear.

He has only 5 to 6 months remaining in his term. You folks have not been particularly kind to he or his Patron, Senator R C.

So Mr. Gore will take his marbles and play on the lot he chooses.
