Opa! Greek Festival coming soon

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- You can immerse yourself in Greek culture next weekend with a little food, music and dancing. Did we mention the food? It's the 18th Annual Greek Festival.

Folks come from across the state and beyond to attend the event at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wilmington. As well as the food and pastries, there will be Greek beer, wine, dancers and an authentic Greek band. Organizers credit the community with making it the greek fest a success.

"The community has really embraced us and done such a wonderful job, and they want to come and see what it's all about," Basile Katsikis, who heads publicity for the festival, said, "'cause I remember in the beginning, 'No one's gonna come. No one's gonna come to this festival. You don't understand.' I said, 'Well what we're gonna do is we're gonna serve a gyro w/barbeque sauce,' and guys went, 'Hmm...' Everyone comes, and they just love it."

The Greek Festival runs May 14-16. Hours Friday and Saturday are noon until 11 p.m. Sunday it's from noon until 8 p.m.

Relief Party for Homeland

Maybe the proceeds from this year's event can go to their homeland of Greece. Bill Saffo can be the honorary spokesperson when presenting the check. Bill Saffo's financial management style
mirrors his native land...irresponsible ! Another liberal politician with a poor acumen for running government.

Be carefull

I wonder if they plan to riot and burn down buildings etc like the people are doing in their home country. I've lost thousands in my 401k this week because they can't manage their economy. I for one will not be celebrating Greece this weekend.

The Greek fest is a celebration of culture not politics. Maybe a little ouzo and Ompah! would help you get over those gold coins you lost.
