Oyster Festival a hit in Ocean Isle Beach

It was oyster mania in Ocean Isle Beach this weekend. The area's 27th annual oyster festival drew oyster lovers from as far away as Mississippi. Some highlights included an array of vendors, a surf contest and the famous shucking contest. All oysters at the festival are harvested locally -- and festival goers seemed to be downing them by the bucket. "Well, I love the steamed Oysters... even learning how to open the things," said Rosemary Simmons, who came to the festival from the Gulf Coast. "No Bloody hands or anything yet but we've only been through two buckets. So we're gonna find the third bucket and see how we do with that." The festival also featured music, family entertainment, arts and crafts. Festival organizers say they expect more than 30,000 people to attend this year.

More Needed Online.. More Oyster Roast Needed PERIOD!

I saw the event online, but there was not much information such as cost, what you get for monies paid, etc.... Would love to go, but would have loved to have known more about it.... Especially since the Airlie Oyster Roast has been sold out for some time and it seems that no one not on the "A-List" can get tickets...

Festival Blues!

Had a great time and late in the day we all left (six family members). Of the six five were eating the oysters and hush puppies. Those five of us are sick today. Maybe we have the MRSA virus or caught a E. Coli bug. Two are in New Hanover getting liquids forced right now. The guy that wouldn't eat/consume anything but Cokes is just fine. Something has made all the rest of us sick. End result, Oyster Fest=5. Adults=4, kids=1 Non-eating adult=1

my family and i hade the

my family and i hade the oysters on saturday and thought they were the best i have had in years not one person in my family got sick. I saw some friends that were there also i called theme after i read your note they were fine also

A SIMPLE Solution...

Don't consume oysters from the Gulf Coast...(Miss./LA. and TEXAS) Eat ONLY fresh N.C. Homegrown oysters... Better tasting, Salty'er, more flavor.. Coming from OUR LOCAL waters, harvested by OUR N.C. Commerical Shellfishermen... Support OUR "Working Waterfronts" and the Fishermen that utilize them..

Local Oysters?

Who serves Locally caught seafood and oysters around here?

If you see...serving Gulf Oysters, even BEFORE the storm they SUCKED. Best oysters around are harvested right along our coast....TRUST ME. Gulf Oysters...NO WONDER you got sick...YUCK.

local oysters

Oysters at event were local.

NO LOCAL Oysters

I cannot see "how" this event had enough harvested "Local" oysters for 30K when the Oyster Havest season OPENED on Oct 15th.. Ask Carson Varum, He is a oyster dealer in Supply/Varnum town N.C. Those BIG pretty oysters came from the Gulf of Mex... I should know My Father attended the event.. NO LOCAL OYSTERS.. If there were any,, they were just a few.. IN ADDITION... Have you EVER heard of ANYONE getting sick from LOCAL NC OYSTERS? Or Just the ones from down south.. I digress..
