It was any thing but “aww shucks” for one local church Saturday. The Oleander United Methodist Church held an oyster bake fundraiser to help complete their new activities building. Organizers say more than one hundred and fifty people took part in the event. Reverend Linda Taylor said the event was a great way to raise money and connect with local traditions. “The community would come together to do oyster roasts. They used local seafood. They would actually go down to wherever you get these things, ocean or river, and bring them in freshly caught and we'd eat the local seafood.” The new building will be used for worship, education, and community events. The Oleander United Methodist Church has served the Seagate community for more than fifty years.
