BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- The case of the coach and his child bride has resulted in another lawsuit against another North Carolina school board.
Earlier this month Dennis and Betty Hager filed suit against the Brunswick County school system. Now they're taking action against Guilford County Schools. That's where 40-year-old track coach Brent Wuchae used to work.
According to the most recent lawsuit, Betty and Dennis Hager say the Guilford County School board was neglegent, saying the board did not report Brent Wuchae's alleged relationships with other female students in Guilford County.
The lawsuit also states Guilford County Schools were aware of Wuchae's behavior, and didn't properly report it, or make notations in his personnel file.
The Hager's attorney, Robert Tatum, released a statement on behalf of the Hagers' saying,
'It is regrettable that sometimes school systems do not have the backbone to take decisive action to protect students...The county did not take any steps to inform Brunswick County about Mr. Wuchae's conduct and he ended up repeating his transgressions there.'
The Hagers' filed a lawsuit earlier this month suing the Brunswick County School Board for not doing enough to stop the relationship, they say, had gone on for years.
It was the Hagers' who eventually signed an affidavit in June, allowing their daughter, Windy, to get married.
Brent Wuchae resigned from South Brunswick High, the same day he married Windy Hager.
It's not clear what proof the Hagers' have that Brent Wuchae had inappropriate relationships with Guilford County students.
Newschannel3 contacted the Guilford County Board of Education for comment. A spokesperson said they didn't even know they were being sued.

Where were the parents of this girl WHILE she was dating the coach? Hello, parents, why weren't YOU doing your job and keep the coach away from your daughter? It is your responsibility to show your daughter how to make sensible decisions and guide her through situtations. Sounds like you turned the other cheek because someone else was paying her attention. Only NOW that you're humiliated you decide that you want to sue the school. Absolutely absurd.

Give me yet another break! Who are they going to sue next? I'm sure these people will find someone. How about they take responsibility for not doing a better job of teaching their daughter not to mess around with her teacher(s). I wish they could sue themselves for being bad parents.

It's getting better
Its the old "apple don't fall far from the tree" mode: according to today's Southport State Port Pilot, the kid and her hubby are suing her parents in small claims court to get $1,000 worth of her stuff out of the house that the Parents of the Year won't let her have, including a $300 beanie baby collection.

And, surely the parents' signature on that document giving her permission to marry this man was written with a pen made by Bic, Papermate, or Pilot. Sue them too.

You the parents have made your own family look ridiculous by making your lives public knowledge. My question is why would you go public with this after you signed for your daughter to marry? Was this step one of the process before you could sue? Are you looking for easy money?
Blame the parents???
While I wholeheartedly understand everyone's stand with placing the full blame on the parents of this less-than-bright teenage bride, please consider that parents today have no control over what they can or cannot "force" their teenage children to do. This young womans emails that were published in the media, clearly show the disdain and severe disrespect that she had for both of her parents judgement and authority. This teen was going to do what SHE wanted to do. I believe the parents signed the release for her to get married knowing that if they didn't, it would only increase the long term animosity. Parents today can't say "NO", they can't physically restrain, or physically force their "kids" to do anything without winding up in front of the DSS and the NC court system. The kids know this, are educated about it and will use it to their advantage only to leave the parents totally without of control. This is our "society" folks, the results of liberals and the ACLU rallying our courtrooms to justify ill behavior and create "gray areas" that used to be plainly black and white in nature. At age 16, any child can flip their parents the finger and move out of their house to wherever they want and the parent can do absolutely nothing to stop them. The parents are legally and financially responsible for those children, their actions and their consequences until their ripe age of 18. The parent is then required by law to provide housing for that child, at the childs request until the age of 18. The parents have the responsibilities of the child but not the means of control necessary to achieve it. While I do understand and see the lack of parenting that takes place nowadays, I think these parents just have a snotty nosed little renegade that was just going to do what she wanted to do regardless of her future or her consequences. These are her "rights", remember??? HORSEHOOIE!!! She just needed her narrow little A$$ beat....
When kids go bad
If your child shoots you the bird and moves out at sixteen, you should immediately go to court and have the child declared an emancipated minor.
You are then free and clear of any further responsibility for that child.
There were several options these parents had available to stop this nonsense, but they all would have required strong backbones. Here's but one - why did they get the media involved AFTER all this crap went down? Why didn't they refuse to let their child go to school because of what was going on, and alert the media at that time, BEFORE they signed the permission to wed?
I had two children, one of whom was too wild to qualify for membership in the Manson Family. She pressed the issue with me more than once, but I always won because she always underestimated just how hard-nosed dad could be when pressed.
I assure you that had this girl been my daughter, ol' coach would have been maintaining at least a half-county's distance between him and her after we "talked." Even if everything else failed, I would have seen Windy run away before I became a co-signer on her destructive behavior. You do NOT push your principles to the back burner simply because a spoiled brat has to get her way.

Now, Their very own SPECIAL attorney says "The school systems do not have the Backbone to take decisive action to protect students." WHAT ???? It is YOUR responsibility to protect Windy, NOT the School system, or any OTHER system. I really doubt the fact that Windy and the good ol' coach were having sex in the classroom, in front of the school system. Where the **** were the two of you when Wendy was hanging with the coach??? Standing back watching, and now you're jumping up & down stomping your feet, wanting to be compensated for the idiotic decisions you have made for your daughter??? EVERYTHING that has happened to Windy is on your head now, GET A GRIP!!!

Parents are suing
The parents do have a right to sue the school board for allowing this so-called teacher to work around these young, impressionable girls. The parents, however, have a responsibility to protect their child from the child's stupid decision to marry an adult. My parents would have filed a restraining order against the teacher then take away all my means of contact with that teacher or anyone else. I would've been placed on restriction, escorted to a different school and check in with every teacher every day til I graduated. All my privileges would have been taken away with only school & work. My parents never had a problem with restricting me for my bad behavior & reprimanded my bad attitudes even when I said I hate you a million times over. Now we have a great relationship, I'm 45, and my work & clients say I'm always positive with my dealings with people.

The fact that the couple is married, does not negate the fact there was and is a responsibility that the school board had and may well not have lived up to. This lawsuit will bear that out.
I am not of the opinion that a monetary award will change anything in the lives of these people. The damage is done. What it *may* do, is encourage the school board to be more vigilant and proactive in the future. Afterall, hitting someone in the pocketbook is the quickest way for them to learn the lesson, innit?

These two parents are crazy!!! They are putting another law suit in the court system that is already overloaded with "bs" suit's like this one. I would love to see the State of NC file a suit on them for being ignorant parents. They allowed and SIGNED the papers to allow their daughter to marry this guy. I think they just want to get some money from somewhere. A would guess that some "cheese" attorney called them and explained that he/she could get them some money and he/she wanted the publicity.
