 WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Firefighters say a car flipped on Peachtree Avenue near Floral Parkway about 1 p.m. They say when they arrived on scene a group of people was trying hold the car up to keep it from crushing the man pinned underneath. Crews rushed him to the hospital. No word on the man's name or condition. Floral Parkway & Park Intersection
Accidents happen at this intersection because the city does not keep large bushes trimmed, preventing drivers from seeing cars going down Floral Parkway. You have to inch out to see what is coming, by then, it is too late, you are in the road. Even the UPS cannot see over the large weed that continues to grow. Our city has trimmed the grass up around the outside of the ditch on Park Avenue, but will not take the time to trim the weeds and bushes that have grown large inside the ditch. This is a major problem for drivers trying to pull out on Floral Parkway. This intersection has always been bad and the city needs to consider a light or 4-way stop to slow the traffic down and help drivers using these intersections. There is a daycare on the corner of Park and Floral, in the past, accidents have had cars hit each other and end up going into the fence of the playground. This is not safe for the children at the daycare. A good investigation as to why the city continues to let this be a hazardous intersection is beyond me.
