A Pender County boy is home from a three month the hospital stay, after an accident in February nearly took his life. The four-year-old is just one of a growing number of children hurt or killed in all terrain vehicle accidents; in fact one-third of all ATV accidents involve children. An event in Wilmington today promoted ATV safety and education. Four-year-old Jones Carr has suffered multiple strokes, has had part of his brain removed, eats through a feeding tube, and its partially paralyzed. “It’s been an unspeakable heartbreaking experience with a very vibrant little boy who now has to fight for his life,” said Jones’ grandfather Check Noe. In February, Jones was on an ATV with his dad. The vehicle was stopped, Jones got his hand on the throttle and cranked it. The ATV flipped, injuring the little boy permanently, nearly taking his life. Jones’ grandparents have already spoken to State Representative Carolyn Justice about drafting a bill in their grandson's name promoting all-terrain-vehicle safety. The Noe's say much needs to be done to prevent further tragedies. Some local agenices, inlcuding the hospital, agree as they held an ATV safety event. "If you are going to own an ATV, make sure that you get educated and you wear protective gear at all times," said Tina Poole of NHRMC Injury Prevention. Just like riding bikes and motorcycles, experts say when you get on an ATV, you need to wear a helmet. In fact it's the law, but according to hospital trauma admissions, not even half of ATV riders abide by it. The Noe's have set up a fund for their grandson. For donations, you can mail the Noe’s at their place of business, Dorothy’s originals, which is located at 6721 Market St. They can also be reached through the website dorothysoriginals.com.

I don't care what anyone

I don't care what anyone says it is not the ATV' or the Manufacture's fault that the little boy was hurt. It sounds to me like the Father put his son on the atv with him and there was a tragic accident. I don't blame anyone of them. I pray that the little boy can heal as best as possible and the Dad don't let this eat him up inside. S/F ROGER FLEMING

No Blame

The person that see a need to place blame. God does not place blame, you do not question what plan God has for you, God has shown this family that his love and strenght has been with them each and every minute and will continue to do so. The only blame is in shame for someone wanting to place the blame.

Carr family

May God continue to hold this family tight in his arms.

ATV'S

WHY BLAME ATV.. WHERE WAS HIS FATHER WHO WAS IN CHARGE. ITS VERY TRAGIC WHAT HAPPENED BUT... WHY WAS THE CHILD ON ATV BY HIMSELF WHERE WAS THE FATHER. IF YOU WANT TO THROW BLAME THROW IT WHERE IT BELONGS..

Let's not point blame on

Let's not point blame on daddy. We have all made mistakes in our lives. At this point stop and think of yours.I am certain you would not have to give much effort in the thought process. May God be with this family and bless you.

doesnt matter who or what

Really does not matter what happened, a child is suffering from someones error in judgment. I do not understand how people can be so careless with their kids safety. Helmets are easy to come by. No excuse for this baby not to have one on.

What?

Obviously you know NOTHING about the details of this horrific accident. The father was ON the four wheeler with little Jonsey when the accident happened. And yes, I do blame ATV's and their manufacturers. They are marketed and made for children that aren't even legally old enough to ride them. This is a strong christian family that has been through hell and back over the past few months. This family has been an inspiration to me through their trials, and to everyone who has been touched by Cowboy Jonsey's story. May god continue to bless Jones Carr and his family, and I will also pray for a little compassion for you as well.

...

Just to add to your comment about ATV companies marketing to young children.. They also put a strong enfaces on wearing helmets and other safety gear. My 5 and 7 year olds rides with their grandfather all the time. They also wear appropriate safety gear (helmet, gloves, close toed shoes, knee and elbow pads) EVERYTIME they go out. No matter how short the drive (down the driveway to get the mail and back). There have been times when they have fallen off, but thanks to me being a "pain in the butt" about wearing safety gear they have never been hurt more than a bruise or scratch. I feel sorry for this family, and I'm glad the child is still alive. Was the child wearing proper safety gear? If not... then I'm sorry to say the blame is on the parents. And if I was one of them, I'd hate myself for what I let happen. Accidents with these type of "toys" are going to happen. Which is why they make safety gear. It is up to us parents to ensure that our kids are properly equipped and dressed for such events. A four year old is not going to remember his helmet when he's excited about riding a 4-wheeler.

Well Said

Well said I must say.....one should consider how hurtful their comments can be before just throwing judgments out there without the knowledge and heart to do so. You can't judge another person until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Jones' parents are wonderful people who love their children tremendously and who are strong and courageous and kind-hearted-their faith is the strongest I have ever seen and it has carried their family through this terrible ordeal and I believe that it will see them through it completely. Instead of pointing fingers-it would be helpful to try to be empathetic and join the Prayer Warriors and say a little prayer for this precious child. I am reminded every day of my faith and how we sometimes take things for granted....I would suggest that you try just for a second to imagine if this were your child...try to envision how difficult it would be....in an instant our lives can be changed forever and I think that it is wonderful that the Carr's have turned such a tragedy into a positive way of inspiring others and raising awareness.....I too, will pray for compassion for this person and hope that you never have to endure the struggles that the Carr's are experiencing...and handling quite beautifully might I add....continuing to be the wonderful parents they were before the accident...We love you Carr Family!

REMENBER GOD

I do think that your child can never be to young to teach them about safety they need to understand that EVERYONE wears Safety gear. It was a horrific accident and my prayers are with that family. Dad you love your kids and as a parent myself I could only think of how you feel. You have a very cute and brave little boy and God gave him and his family a 2nd chance with him because he knows you realy are wonderful parents and that you would love him no matter what. There needs not to be blame this dad has to live with this the rest of his life he probly blames himself. EVERYONE needs to stop placen blame and look at what God has done! One Mistake this dad has made. A MISTAKE! God gave no blame, God Pointed know fingures, God gave little cowboy back his life! COW BOYS PARENTS GOD LOVES YOU! GOD DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANYTHING YOU CAN'T HANDEL!!! REMENBER IN GOD WE TRUST!
