Pender County man gets life sentence

PENDER COUNTY -- A Pender County man will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Tuesday morning Lakane Murphy pleaded guilty to several charges, including first-degree murder and burglary. In January of 2006 Murphy broke into his ex-girlfriend's home near Atkinson, beat her unconscious then shot and killed her friend 52-year-old Malachaui Loftin. Murphy will serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

It's about time

It is about time that this guy has been put away for good so that he can no longer continue to do harm to innocent citizens of our society. My sister who once loved Mr. Murphy was one of his victims even though she is the mother of two of his children. I am so thankful that she escaped with her life. What is sad is that it took so long for the law to put him away even though his crimes are many. Many of which he has never been charged for. I am sure he will continue his bad behavior in the Prison system. At least he will be in a place where people are trained to deal with people of his kind. One more terroist taken off of our streets... Thank God
