The state honored some Pender County residents for their volunteerism. Priscilla Tyree, Donna Grinbergs and Suzette Faldzinski received the Governor's Award for Volunteer of the Year. Riley's Creek Baptist Church Disaster Team and the Burgaw Baptist Church also received recognition. The Governor's Award is presented annually to individuals, groups and businesses that make a significant contribution to their community, in this case, through volunteer service.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to Riley's Creek Baptist Church for helping my Daughter when their house burned down January 1st. They were the first to give a helping hand to them in their time of need. What a wonderful and compasionate church. They deserve this award! God Bless!
