The Pender County School Board is looking into its school emergency evacuation plan after complaints from Topsail High School parents.
Thursday, a strange odor forced school officials to evacuate the building.
School Board Chair Tom Roper said Topsail operated under its lock down plan and that each Pender County School has a different operating procedure based on their layouts.
Some parents were unhappy their children were outside for hours and parents were not allowed to pick them up.
School officials said the kids were in the safest location possible. They are going to look in to how to make sure kids continue to stay safe without inconveniencing their parents.
