Pender County has dozens of summer camps that are starting up in the next few weeks. You can find a bargain on many of them, you just have to narrow your search and figure out how much you want to spend to keep your kids busy. The Surf City recreation center is gearing up for a busy summer season. The center is offering summer camps for kids interested in everything from the ocean to growing your own vegetables. This summer camp promises to give kids a new found appreciation for Surf City. Surf City Parks and Recreation director Kristie Grubb said, "The kids can get a feel for what it is like to live in Surf City, because some of them even though they live or live close, don't get to experience the neat things that go on in Surf City, so we're excited to provide that for them." The camp starts June 16 and runs through August 8, for ages 6 to 10 years old. It will only cost you $125. For more information call 328-4887. Surf City is also partnering up with Cape Fear Community College for the first annual Kids College Summer Camp. Kids will have a chance to learn vocational skills dealing with everything from marine technology to culinary arts with the help of Cape Fear instructors. Tammy Parris, Cape Fear Community College, said, "We were hoping that possibly some of these kids would start to get a focus on what they wanted to do when they get older, and possibly consider Cape Fear Community College in that area for education." Students in the camp will also be able to take college tours on the campus. It is for teens making up their minds about their futures. For more information call 362-7196.
