Pender crime statistics

READ MORE: Pender crime statistics
In Pender County violent and property crimes are up by 10.2 percent. That news doesn't sit well with the sheriff. Sheriff Carson Smith is not pleased with the stats, but says he has an idea of where it's coming from. The State Department of Justice crime report shows that Pender County overall crime is up 10.2 percent -- that's the average per 100,000 people. Sheriff Smith said most of that increase in crime is due to population growth and construction thefts. "With the cost of copper and the other things that make construction a prime target in those areas, that's what we're trying to do now is figure out what we can do to increase our presence and our patrols in those areas," said Smith. Sheriff Smith said a slow economy is also causing more property thefts. The slow economy has not prompted Sheriff Smith to cut the amount of deputies. He said he may beef up areas that are targets for robbers.

What do they think is

What do they think is going to happen when you get rid of all the deputies that have been there long enough to stop crime and replace them with deputies straight out of school who don't know our area or what to look for to stop crime. There has been over 28 deputies guit since this sheriff came to office. Maybe someone should call the feds off Hewett and bring them down here.

TOTALY AGREE

I'M IN TOTAL AGREEMENT 100% IF THEY WERE LOOKED INTO THEY WOULD FIND OUT ALOT THEY HAD GOOD ONES, BUT THEY LOST THEM!!! YOU EITHER HAVE TO BE WEALTHY, OR WELL KNOW TO BE HEARD, & MOST OF THEM ARE WHINNERS!!!! THE HARD WORKING PEOPLE ARE THE ONES NOT SEEN OR HEARD,

Your not the only one who

Your not the only one who thinks that way!!

I hear now the sheriff

I hear now the sheriff has done away with the dare program for kids. You know the program to helps our children stay away from violence and drugs. I guess kids can't vote and don't have money so they dont matter in pender county.
