Perdue moves on opponent's home turf of Charlotte

CHARLOTTE -- Competing against the mayor of North Carolina's largest city hasn't discouraged Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue from taking the fight for governor to Pat McCrory's home turf. Perdue has campaigned aggressively in Charlotte over the past several weeks, saying her footprints are all over the community. She says her track record in the city extends more than a decade. Her challenge in Charlotte is to take votes from a seven-term Republican mayor who's had help from Democrats in a city where the party's voter registration outpaces the GOP by a nearly 2-to-1 margin. Perdue is scheduled to visit Charlotte three days this week, including Wednesday night. That's when she's scheduled to appear with McCrory and Libertarian Mike Munger in the last televised debate of the race, aired live on local television. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
