Perdue names 4 to board overseeing NC schools

RALEIGH -- Gov. Beverly Perdue wants an attorney and longtime school counselor on North Carolina's Board of Education. Perdue said she appointed Reginald Kenan of Duplin County and Christine Greene of High Point to the state's governing panel for the public schools. Kenan owns a law practice and serves on the Duplin County school board. Greene has worked as a Guilford County high school counselor and led the Guilford Institute for Leadership Development. Perdue also announced Thursday the reappointments of board members Tricia Willoughby of Raleigh and Wayne McDevitt of Marshall to eight-year terms. Three of the four appointments must be confirmed by the General Assembly. Greene's appointment does not because she is filling out a term. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press.
