Plan to turn Blockade Runner into condos falls through

WILMINGTON -- A landmark hotel at Wrightsville Beach was supposed to be turned into condo's, but now plans have changed.

The owner of the Blockade Runner says he's not surprised the sale fell through. In February the property was sold to two local men who wanted to transform the hotel rooms into condominiums.

They planned to spend millions to renovate the hotel and upgrade it with new furniture.
The owner of the Blockade Runner says the sale of the property was contingent upon pre-selling the condo units, which didn't happen.

Bill Baggett says he isn't ruling out trying to sell again in the future.

Baggett said, "Well, we intend to make it more valuable. So there probably will be a sale in the future but it will be more valuable."

Baggett says the blockade runner is always on sale for the right price. But it is not being advertised at this time.

We have tried to get in touch with the men who wanted to buy the blockade runner, but our phone calls have not been returned.

I truly understand why the blockade Runner sale fell through. If you have ever stayed in one of the rooms that has not been remodeled or have dealt with Bill Baggett's unprofessionalism and derogatory mannerisms, than it is no surprise as to why the Blockade Rundown Resort remains under Bill Baggetts ownership.

Just like "it will" when the next major hurricane hits them.
Sounds like a good investment to me????

Someone Please Buy this place

Someone please buy it and spend some money! It would be nice if we had a legitimate 4 or 5 star Resort at the beach, not what's there now.

You must be really rich to

You must be really rich to say something like that. The runner has always been there for everyone and it shouldn't be destroyed!!!!

All I can say is...."Thank

All I can say is...."Thank goodness this project fell apart before taking investors down with it!" Just like the recent real estate/mortgage BLACKHOLE we've gotten our nation into....this was just another one of the schemes to make a few rich.....and the others lose. Come on folks!

Let's ask the original planners one simple question, "were they willing to loan THEIR money to someone who wanted to buy one of these units?" HA! I'm sure that one simple question/answer would tell us all whether it was a good idea or bad idea.
