GREENSBORO -- Police say a high school basketball coach has been arrested and charged with having inappropriate contact with a student. The News-Record of Greensboro reports that 27-year-old Karl Wells was released Tuesday on a written promise to appear in court on the incident that occurred on Oct. 30. Greensboro police Capt. Janice Rogers says the investigation began after the mother of a female student at Western Guilford High School found a text message on the girl's phone and notified school officials. Wells, an assistant teacher for exceptional education and an assistant girls basketball coach at the school, was charged with indecent liberties with a student. School officials say Wells resigned shortly after the mother came forth with the allegations. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
