RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- A 48-year-old grandmother is in custody after Raleigh police say she left her 3-month-old grandchild at home alone while she stole wine at a nearby grocery store.
An arrest warrant says Vivian King Leak aleft the infant asleep on a bed while she went to the store. Police say while she was at the supermarket, Leak concealed two mini-bottles of wine.
Police spokesman Jim Sughrue says Leak was apprehended Friday as she was walking away from the store. He says
she gave police a false name and birth date when confronted.
Leak is charged with one count each of shoplifting, resisting a police officer and misdemeanor child abuse. She is in the Wake County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. It wasn't known Monday whether she has an attorney.
