Politicians from across the state gathered in Charlotte Tuesday to discuss their support for presidential candidate Barack Obama. Eight mayors, including Durham's Bill Bell, Winston-Salem's Allen Joines, Asheville's Terry Bellamy and Greensboro's Yvonne Johnson, joined former Governor Jim Hunt for a news conference. Fourty-seven North Carolina mayors, former mayors and mayors pro tem have endorsed Obama, including Lewis Brown, the former mayor of Navassa, and Jerry Merrick, Navassa's mayor pro tem.
