Guaranteed if she had her CCW they never would have pulled this and gotten away with it. Its amazing those states which higher rates of CCW carriers or even open carry have much lower crime rates overall. Theres a reason why. Not to mention nobody ever wants to get involved. A purse snatching is a felony hence the laws regarding being able to make a citizens arrest being allowed would apply although Im sure Chief E would hate it if suddenly the folks downtown did the job the cops cant seem to do (and considering the thuggery of some of the WPD officers who are downtown late night maybe that wouldnt be so bad.) Id like to know where all these gas happy jackbooted thugs were when this woman got robbed normally there cops all over.. No pun but where was the calvery when they were needed.
...will launch the ludicrous argument that "3rd Street really isn't downtown."
When someone is stabbed on Front Street, it's called "an isolated incident."
What no one wants to admit is that downtown and the historic district are adjacent to the largest depository of criminals in the city. Unless you start cutting off felons' legs, it will always be a short walk from 10th Street to anywhere in downtown.
Am I saying that everyone East of 3rd Steet is a thug? Of course not. There are many decent, law-abiding citizens who are unlucky enough to live in "the hood." But you don't cooperate with the police, you don't lift an eyebrow when your fifteen year-old son comes home at 3AM on a school night with more money than you make in a month, and when he gets in trouble with the law, you're jumping to his defense!
Well, we're obviously not going to cut people's legs off upon conviction of a felony, and since NC has no desire to actually incarcerate dangerous criminals, everyone down ther is on their own. Good luck to ya! If it's "the law of the jungle" down there, blame nothing beyond your culture of embracing criminal offspring while tolerating the same criminal activity in your neighbors, and a weak, ineffective criminal justice system that coddles criminals instead of punishing them....
...and kudos to the barve woman who held these two at bay with the baseball bat. I only wish you had put it to better use by instilling upon their pointed little heads the fact that this behavior will not be tolerated. We need to start doing what the state will not - PUNISHING criminals severely.
crime downtown is common place
my buddy got robbed and punched in the face.
if we build a ball park, it'll only get worse
you can go to a game but don't take your purse.
lets all replace violence with love and hugs,
before the baseball fans become targets for the thugs.
Had a great time downtown last night. A little art to see, music to hear, friends to meet, good food and grog to enjoy. A great place to be.
Bring It! Downtown. If you bring it, they will take it: your purse, your wallet, your money, perhaps even your life!
The problems of downtown ILM can't be fixed by a slogan, especially a dumb one.
There are plenty of safe places downtown. If you do not think so, then you obviously never go there!!
I am tired of people who live in their "crime free neighborhoods"<-- sarcasm, talking crap about downtown.
There is a large amount of crime that happens in these so called safe neighborhoods!!!!
Get your heads out of your dream world clouds and come down to earth!!!!!
Does a "safe corner" even exist in downtown Wilmington anymore?
Yes. The one Im standing on is safe. Because Im packing a gun.
Has a problem. You should have an option on there that lets people vent and say what they think. As always, I do not believe you should accept comments from people who will not give a name. Of course, I realize that they could give a fake name.
That is beside the point. The point is that it is one more step toward accepting responsibility.
Accepting responsibility means that if you are laying in the gutter with 6 bullet holes in you because you tried to mug some old person, then you will have learned something. It may be a lesson that lasts only a few seconds- but, you can go on to the other world secure in the knowledge that you served as a good example. "Crime does not pay."
Downtown is as safe as any part of town. Just don't do stupid things like walk home at 2:30 in the morning smashed. It doesn't help that news services try to portray it otherwise.
