FYI to Webster Collett..the former employee is "white". You know what they say about assuming.
There are TWO situations here.
First the deposition in which Deen admitted to using the N word in the past. This situation apparently is what lead the Food Network to not renew her contract.
The other situation in my opinion is more serious. This is the situation with her business partner and brother where employees are charging both of them with a hostile work environment, where racial slurs were STILL being used and where the brother told workers "there are no civil rights here".
I was unaware of the current situation and thought the Food Network had over reacted. Now that I see the other situation? IT sounds too familial and too much of a pattern.
There is to much going on in other news to worry about someone saying a racial slur...for instance, Syria, USA, and Russia.
Did you know the word "nigga" (no er) is a term of endearment among the black people? Me neither. Also, this word is used in rap songs constantly as a "nice" word. So what's up with the other folks? Why are we so sensitive to the word as being so horrible?
I agree that we,not of African American heritage, may be confused over the use of the N word by our brown brothers and sisters. Of course you must know that all non blacks are being messed when done in their presence. My support base, family and friends, does not use this word in my presence.
This is an employee/ employer issue which they will deal with in court, that is a case of a disgruntled employee trying to see what she can get out of it. But for Food Network to eliminate her programming is just wrong. I watch Paula Deene for the cooking ideas and the employee's problem is irrelevant to me and others who watch the programs. I think Food Network is showing bias here and stepping beyond bounds. What are they going to do next, start investigating the personal lives and all comments made by each person that has a show. This is just ridiculous. I'll be watching to see which network puts her back on TV and when I find out, that's the channel I'll be going too.
I really don't care what "word" she used as long as she's doing the job that she does on TV. She didn't use the word on the TV show. What's wrong with Food Network, don't they know the meaning of an apology?
Wow really they should drop off she's figure and what she said was wrong. this is not the first time she's made racial statements . Food Network did right. get all the facts First this comment just boiled the pot over
Everybody has used a racial slur at one time or another. She needs to be commented for telling the truth. This says something for her character. If the Cooking Network drops her now, she will still be fine. She has already made her millions... It is really amazing that the white race really gets the bad end of the stick when it comes to racial issues.
I've lost a faith and following for her after hearing this...
She's a good "cook", "chef", however, I thought she was better than this. Just sayin....
To Guest 2264, REALLY???? Wow you are the first person I have had the honor of hearing that you are PERFECT....NOT. Just remember on judgement day YOU cast the first stone.
Black people call each other the N word all the time. White people have lost their **^$# minds letting all this racial crap cause so much stir. What are you afraid of? AND her remark about a watermelon cooler is in no way offensive to anyone. My GOD, get a grip!! And anyone who thinks this is offensive needs to GET OVER YOURSELF!!!
She did not just say something about a water cooler. She wanted to have black people at her wedding playing the roles of SLAVES. How much more racist do you need to be?
I absolutely do not believe she wanted black people to play the role of slaves, anywhere! C'mon. . get real. . next thing you will say is she wants to ship all blacks to Africa. Go dust your house and run the vaccum.... opps.... am I making reference to slavery??
My wife's family owned slaves and she has been known to use the N word. Should I divorce/fire her?
According to Leviticus, you should probably stone her to death for that a few other offenses.
Seriously though, while I don't really care for Paula, she was honest enough to answer honestly. Too often, we judge peoples actions of the past by the new rules in place today, which of course is completely ridiculous.
You should spank her.
I am sure she has nothing on most rap music for racists comments. But that speech is politically correct.
Paula Deen's a self-serving hypocrite, both for hiding her diabetes while promoting fatty, sugar-heavy foods and for not announcing it until quite some time later when she finally partnered for a payday with a drug company that provides diabetes medication.
In the mean-time, she just kept promoting her harmful, unhealthy crap. She worked that phony smile of hers all the way to the bank. Looks Like she screwed up and let the real Paula slip out again. In the old days, she would have been a snake oil huckster in a traveling road show.
Her restaurant in Savannah's a piece of crap too, just like her.
The Food Network is a self serving hypocrite too.
It is nothing both whites and blacks have not done. If a black person calls a white person "whitey", "honkey", or "cracker", that is fine. It is done openly all the time. But, let a white use the "n" word, and all Hell breaks loose. Too much of a double standard here.
Paula should not let go just because she said something that made someone mad. If they let her go for that then there should be a lot more people that should lose their job also, because we have all used a racial slurs at on time or the other.
This is nothing more than a disgruntled former employee playing the race card in an effort to get back at Ms Deen and her brother for her dismissal. Shamefully these people know that they can play the aggrieved minority with devastating effect and do not hesitate to do so.
