Do you feel the SEAL who wrote the book detailing the death of Osama bin Laden should be punished for "leaking secrets?"

Nothing has been proven!

Releasing and compromising classified information is a crime. This is not in dispute and I have a full understanding of the process and the applicable laws. If the SEAL had done so, he would have already been arrested.

The politicians hate it when somebody gets ahead of them or corrects their version of the truth.

I don't know the facts, or the nature of the classified information the SEAL has reportedly divulged... I am saying he most likely didn't or he would have already been picked up, since it is clear who he is and what the classified material is (to the originator).

Now...lets go after the bastards who routinely reveal classified information as a hobby...(Congressmen, Administration officials, etc.).

Did he

in fact have a TS clearance.

If he did, then he has some issues to address.

Those who served under a TS clearance are bound not to reveal details or really even speak about their activities in a general sense or to spouses or loved ones.

Was true during Vietnam; remains true today.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.

Now as to those leakers in the Administration, in Texas, they would find a tall oak tree and some rope awaiting them. At least that's what my friends tell me.

If the soldier had a TS clearance then the MILITARY has something to address. It seems, that over time our desire for information on "secret" missions has increased and our desire to spill those secrets has also increased. There are several WWII vets that I knew who went to their graves taking "secrets" with them because they firmly believed that when Uncle Sam said "don't tell" they didn't - not to their wives of 50 years, family or fellow Vets.
Where would we be today if our culture had this propensity for being big mouths during WWII? We broke the Japanese codes early in WWII, the British broke the Enigma code. Would the world had known about the Manhattan project before we dropped the A bombs?

I'm not that keen on Obama but I tolerate "non-serious" oath taking even more. If a military person has a TS clearance then is should a solemn oath - given, and taken, by those who hold oath taking with all the seriousness it deserves.
This soldier, if he DID release top secrets, should be shot for treason. Any government officials who released info should be fired and tried in civilian court.
Sure it sounds like the soldier gets a worse punishment but they are trusted with that info and swear to protect it.
Mauer(sp?) should be imprisoned.
Anyone trying to use the secret info for political gains should be ashamed. We are still "over there" and we still have soldiers in harms way.

I believe we are in agreement on this one. I know many, from Vietnam, who were on missions and under TS clearances.

Were the media aware, they would have a field day with incidents which make known attrocities pale in comparison.

Those secrets will go to the grave.

SCT

Yes and My Lai was only one of many atrocities
But that was carried out by ordinary troops - not anyone associated with a TS clearance. I believe in My Lai something, or someone, just "snapped".

We have gone way overboard in our search for dirt or some titillating facts to use against politicians, or to make money. I don't pretend to know what drove this SEAL to do this and to me it does not matter.
If he did leak TS info then a public execution is called for.
For others in government? Firing and public trial as prescribed by our judicial system.
We had secret intel, and used secret weapons to get "Geronimo" nothing should be said about any of that.
If anyone wants to moan and groan about Obama took credit or he just got lucky or Bush laid the groundwork - go for it. That's all political BS anyway.
But at the soldiers level this situation is a disgrace to the uniform and to our country, and Mauer is part and parcel of that, as is any administration official that leaked info.

It's not surprising that

It's not surprising that Leon Panetta, who like Obama is about More Control of the American People and less of for our First Amendment Right, just in case the Obama Adminstration doesn't know what the Right is, it's The of Freedom of Speech. The very thing this country was created for and the very thing this Navy Seal was fighting to insure that we here at home get to keep. Shame on all of those who agree to punish Anyone for exercising the First Amendment.

SeaL

He should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize....He earned it...Obama did not.

Navy Seal possible punishment

The answer to the poll is a resounding NO. The Obama administration leaked classified information about Seal Team 6 for political purposes, placing the Navy Seals and their families in jeopardy. If anyone should be punished, it should be the administration.

This soldier should stand

This soldier should stand trial in front of a military court for divulging information about a mission. He did this for money only!!

If he does stand trial, so

If he does stand trial, so should all those in the President's staff that leaked info to media and movie producers, including the idiot in chief.

The SEAL wrote the book to expose OBAMA

your statement about him doing it for money is totally wrong because all proceeds are going to Wounded Warrior and other related charities so he isnt making a dime off this book. He wanted the truth to come out. To include the constant wishy washy inaction thanks to Obama we're lucky we even got the SOB and made him fishfood.
