Nobody being annexed wants it. If it wasn't for annexation, the Wilmington city limits would stop at Shipyard / Carolina Beach Rd and 17th and Market, where they were 50 years ago. Every populated city in NC would dry up.

Shame on you, New Hanover and Southport. Please keep in mind, it doesn't have to be about the money. People don't desire to give money they don't have towards more taxes. These annexation are a true burden to the people who are being force into annexation. This really should not happen again. Leave them / us be. Thank you, Mayor Saffo, if this will be dropped for the people of Monkey Junction after, they sent in their 60% plus of ballots. God bless and keep you all.

I hope that the residents will never let that happen, but given the track record of the people of New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington, I just cannot be sure. After all, no matter what the city council and county commissioners do to them, they keep getting re-elected. I truly hope that this will be a lesson to all that you can fight city hall and win. Let your voices be heard at the polls like they were in this fight. Take your city and your county back and turn it into the wonderful place that I know it can be.
As long as forced annexation is even allowed in this state, politicians will be scheming and plotting. They'll get very creative in their subterfuge.
The two pieces of legislation this state needs more than anything else are a total, final end to forced annexation and a constitutional amendment barring the taking of private property for anything beyond public **USE**, which does not include the nebulous claim of public benefit. (As we saw in Kelo v New London)
