Under DEMOCRATIC control in the NC Legislature (1977)-amended in 1994, please see the referenced link depicting the requirements in North Carolina administrative rules already directing abortion clinics to perform ultrasounds for any patient who is scheduled to have an abortion. Hospitals that may perform abortions must meet standards of care that would include some medical method to determine the gestational age, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. This section applies to abortion clinics and specifically states: “an ultrasound examination shall be performed and the results posted in the patient’s medical record for any patient who is scheduled for an abortion procedure.”

Sen. Goolsby should show the unborn baby pic the sonogram wand illuminates. All pregnant women have this wand used when they carry their baby to term. So it is only considered invasive when it shows you a baby you want to destroy? So, Sen. Goolsby, do a counter-ad that shows the wand and resulting baby pic THEN show an ABORTION SUCTION WAND that will also be inserted during the procedure; however, you will be dis-allowed from showing the results of that wand procedure because aborted baby parts are considered too offensive.
Politics
Politicians are not welcome in my private areas, physically OR legislatively. I was born with a brain that can make these type of decisions all on my own - I certainly don't need Thom Goolsby's assistance.

To the person who implied that Deb Butler could only do this because she had no children. You have no clue and you have never seen Deb with children. First of all, she is an ongoing presence of a fine young man who is now 16 and doing very well academically. She is amazing with my niece and nephew who both are special needs kids. In addition, her campaign team has a wonderful kid who also has special needs that is simply devoted to Deb. finally, take a look at the way she is able to bond with young adults who have whole heatedly supported her. Deb is a fantastic person who is much loved and respected by those who know her. You have absolutely no clue, whomever you are.
Medical Procedures
It seems absurd that Thom Goolsby is up over Deb Butler holding an invasive medical instrument that is used in a medical procedure. One that Goolsby helped push through the legislature. It was a partisan piece of legislation that Goolsby now has to answer for. Goolsby is no doctor and shouldn't be prescribing anything for for women or men. He is no saint and should not be legislating morals.
I'm upset that Goolsby has an ad where he talked about improving schools. My God! Does he believe that we don't check on anything he does. He has hurt the school system and the future of NC. Two good reasons to replace him as soon as possible.

Sen. Goolsby was useful in the last election cycle, most particularly with respect to his efforts to end involuntary annexation.
Unfortunately, I will not vote for him again unless he denounces this disgusting invasion of a woman's privacy with a wand while she is seeking LEGAL medical services.
Sorry to not vote for you again, Thom but you got "killed" in a wreck at the intersection of fiscal and social conservatism.

Healthcare: between a woman and her doctor
Doctors use transvaginal ultrasounds for a number of reasons - they are a useful tool for getting a very close picture of what is going on within a woman's reproductive system, including cysts, tumors, and very early pregnancy. However, doctors should be deciding when it is appropriate to use one, not Mr. Goolsby.

It is the doctor and facility that chooses the ultrasound device they use, not Thom Goolsby or any legislator. The pregnant woman is getting exposed to multiple vaginal medical devices during an abortion, the wand is the least intrusive compared to the devices used to perform the abortion. This lady is obviously obsessed with female vaginal devices to portray herself in this manner on national tv.

It's obviously Mr. Goolsby that is "Obsessed" with vaginal procedures! Get real. I'm not sure who noted this first, but if men got pregnant there clinics would be like Starbucks, two on every block and four at every airport terminal.
Merits
One can argue the merits of legislation, on the merits. One can hold strong beliefs and opinions on either side of an issue.
However, in my opinion, introducing a medical instrument as a prop intended to shock contradicts the sober qualities of a leader and a legislator. By her actions, she has given lie to the notion that she is qualified to serve as a representative of the people of this district.
We need leadership, not stunts.

when the electorate chooses not to inform themselves on the facts of politicians' platforms, and instead lets themselves be misled by the fear and false outrage of the right wing media, sometimes it takes a stunt just to get attention and show people what it is they are really voting for.

Politics should stay "out of" a woman's body
I had this instrument used on me for medical purposes; it was not a pleasant experience. Men that make laws that invade a woman's body need to get their feet in the stirrups. Goolsby a big NO from me. Thanks Deb Butler for showing what instrument will be used in a transvaginal ultrasound.

Funny, women who do not want women to have the right and access to know all information to make an informed consent on a medical procedure - abortion - that will affect the rest of their lives and involves killing an innocent unborn baby. Planned Parenthood uses ultrasounds to assist with abortions, but the pro-choice community refuses to allow all women to see what they see. Why????? Same tool used for diagnosing ovarian cancer or WANTED PREGNANCIES??? Ironic, isn't it? We are pro-life, pro-woman, pro-family, pro-child and believe all women have rights! Women deserve better! Truth is... introducing
Truth is... introducing foreign objects into women's vaginas increases the risk of infection. A woman's health is a doctor's first priority. The fetus,should the woman carry the pregnancy to term, is now also at an increased risk. It's a bad,bad law. Plus, I've realized Thom Goolsby IS a transvaginal wand. AKA Prick
Noone should have a problem with this
This is basic health care equipment. Noone should have a problem with a medical instrument being used in an advertisement this way. It's not like they're showing it being shoved up a crying pregnant woman's junk after she's decided to terminate her pregancy for her own private, legitimate reasons (which is more like what it would actually look like). If Goolsby & his supporters are so proud of his position, why should it be a problem for the public to know what, exactly, he supports? They show mammogram machines and tampons on TV all the time, so it can't be because ladies' mess shouldn't be in the public purview.

Unless a woman has had to have a transvaginal ultrasound for as medically necessary procedure to diagnose a condition/illness, she has not seen one, and men outside the medical field, don't want to see one. Sure, she should use it in her ad. I'm a supporter of transparency, so let his supporters see the medically unnecessary piece of equipment he would use to violate women.

It is absolutely appropriate. For those who don't what a transvaginal ultrasound wand is, this ad will be an education. Anyone with half a brain should be appalled that Goolsby thinks he has any business legislating women's pelvic exams. Shame on him and good on Deb Butler.

So let me get this straight, it's okay for women to be forced to have this instrument put inside their most private area (unnecessarily, might I add) but it's not okay for men to have to look at it in a stupid tv ad (which they have the right to look away from or turn off)? How does that even KIND OF make sense??
