I know how they can build new stadium. Go ask all restaraunts see if they like to help build it they will have a place in there. What better thing to do and eat than eat fast food or something else than hot dogs and hamburgers something else. I know I would this would be great they also can be open on regular basis in front of the entrances where people can come grab some food and go sit down.
The smallest county in NC. A growing population in the city and county. A great testination point for vacationers and retirees. A disfunctional government in a small geographic area, with wastefull duplicity and ineficiencies. Government competition instead of cooperation.Silly to have two of everything. Silly to pay for two of everything. The political agenda is contrary to the agenda of the public. The "Committee of 100" is makeing sure Wilmington/New Hanover County will stay the way they want it. Wilmington should be all of New Hanover County. Get it over with. Provide services county wide when economically viable. Charge people with services for those services. Consolitaded government, zoning, sevices, and Law Enforcement. Forced cooperation via consolidation. Smaller, cheaper, better. Remove egoes, special interests, add a pinch of logic and welcome the future.
Forget Wilmington and all the dollar dealers all in bed with each other. Why not look across the river where there is a development planned looking out over Downtown Wilmington. This place will be HUGE with a water park, music venue, and baseball.
It seems this downtown idea using money we aint got is impossible, but possible just on the other side of the river.
if it s such a wonderful idea let private money pay for it. it is not a government function. neither is the convention center or golf courses.let the stupid council and county commissioners pay out of their own pockets for it.
...can drive to see the Pelicans or the Indians in less than two hours. Wade hit the nail on the head - this is NOT a function of government....
...and as so many people have pointed out again and again, if it was a money-making opportunity, private entrepenuers would be crawling all over it.
When they come, hat-in-hand to the government, you KNOW it's a scam!
IS for losers. If there is ANY company out there who believes this project would be good for Wilmington, then they should pay for it. Think of the money they would make- or lose.
This is not a function of city or county government.
Baseball is duller than City Council meetings.
City council meetings make me wish I was marriad again.
Marriage is the best sleep inducer.
I think a ballpark would be a great addition to Wilmington. There are many braves fans in this area and I think it would be a big draw for surrounding areas.
We have traveled to Myrtle Beach to see the Pelicans play and a ball game is a family friendly activity and would boost the local ecomony.
My family even traveled all the way to Atlanta to see the Braves play. Which means we stayed in the area for a week --spending money at hotels, restaurants and other attractions.
Come on Wilmington, let's try something that will work instead of making the same mistakes. It would pour in at least as much money as the movie studio and would be more local-friendly.
I would love to be a travel agent promoting a city with the southern charm & natural beauty of the beaches, historical sights, the battleship, proximity to the shows at Myrtle Beach, the movie industry and a ball park!
Trust me--build it and they will come.
Professional Baseball and modern stadium facilities are doing well all across NC. Asheville,Winston,Greensboro,Durham ect. have invested in good high quality family entertainment in there downtown areas. These facilities provide a new appeal, provide jobs for local business.
The regional draw is positive for the city. Regarding the lack of support for the Sharks, bringing an Atlanta Braves franchise here is like comparing apples and oranges. Real Baseball will do great in Wilmington. Don"t miss the opportunity Kids!!
How many do we have already??? No one even goes to the Sharks games so why do we need another baseball facility? What about a basketball facility that everyone can go to? The local churches are the only ones who seem to know that the majority of the youth who play athletics play basketball and some have even built new facilities but those centers arent open to the public as a state funded would.
why worry about a baseball stadium. When it is obivous we need not just one but a few atheletic gyms where kids can go play an workout without having to pay a monthly fee.May be just maybe that will keep crime down,an kids off the streets.
The whole point of this discussion is: If some developer wants a baseball park he should develop it. This is not a government function.
