This is an interesting poll with 56% saying "NO" to public access TV.
Supporters supposedly ran their own poll which was the basis for this proposal, claiming overwhelming support. IT would appear as though support is not wide spread as supporters had hoped.
I wonder if O'Grady and council remember the ballpark debacle. Supporters claimed over whelming support - but polling here showed a consistent 80% against - which turned into a 70% vote against the stadium.
I don't like policy by polling but on the other hand I don't proposing policy based upon supporters polling.......
So I doubt you folks will remember cus few of you are actually from here but we did have a public access channel back in the early 90’s. It was great! I would sit around on Saturday and Sunday afternoon and watch endless streams of Louis Farrakhan speeches that they showed. It was unintentionally the most awesomely hilarious thing they ever showed on that channel and it was usually ALL weekend. Between that and the poorly filmed church revivals and nation of Islam propaganda that the channel showed the rest of the time it was some of the most creative and comedic example of a misuse of county funds to come of Wilmington until 1998 when the city decided to put that fake cow over on Wrightsville Avenue and call it art.
To be sure it was comedy gold and with Wilmington only becoming more insane in the last 20 years I can only imagine what kind of lunatics would be on there now… Hell! Give Berger a time slot. I’d love to hear what that maniac has to say.
The Wilmington leaders can't even run Wilmington, why give them more to screw up?
With local access stations.
First - they are lightly overseen. A lot of stuff can get on those stations.
Second there are some undefined legalities involved (which I don't understand)
Think about this - think about anti stadium guys buying all the air time on this station.
Think of hte PRO stadium people dong the same?
Think about watching endless loops of downtown wilmington videos.
