There are waaay too many egos that will block the way to any such merger.
If the tax situation doesn't attract business.
And the location doesn't attract business.
And the quality of the help doesn't attract business.
Then why pay to market at all?
You wold think that ILM would be a business magnet the way people talk about down town.
If its not happening you need to ask why?
If marketing is not working (and it's not)
Fire your marketing folks.
in the private sector, if you don't see results, you're out the door.
Look at UNCW basketball. Peterson would be gone were it not for the big buyout he would be due; which by the way the school does not have the dollars to fund in a lump sum.
And it should be especially true for the Executive who thinks his entity issued credit card is available for personal purchases such as cigars and groceries.
If they really want to make a clean sweep, they can look at the CC and its marketing efforts.

I have to disagree - you are right - but the CC marketing is different because the CC is in a business that is dying off. I very seldom hear of industry groups conventioneering anymore. You might get the occasional trade show or boat show but thats about it. The CC should never have been built.
Down town however is part of a so called vibrant city.
The city is coming out of a recession (sort of) so there's not much of an excuse for NOT having a full bustling down town area - unless marketing up top this point has been bad which, unfortunately, is what I feel has happened.
Because there are so many groups and the city supports at least one of these groups I think the city should STOP all funding for all groups.
Because they have failed and we're wasting monies on them.
The CC is a different critter. No amount of marketing can save that beast........
