Despite being a darling of the green crowd: turbines are NOT a good energy source as they are now. Studies in areas where they are already being used show where they are killing an extraordinary numbers of birds (est. 573,000/yr). Although I'm sure they could, energy producers have not provided a safe way to use this method, & will not until they are hit with fines where it hurts most: their profits.) Google a search on "wind turbines kill birds), or check this page for starters: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/editorials/ruffled_feathers_eoxtOD4...
I think it would be a good thing, if the people got cheaper power, but I fear it will be like the oil, they are drilling here now, yea they get it cheaper but it cost us the same, bet this will be the same.
Visual pollution? On my trips to California I love seeing the wind farms and all the turbines. Which would you rather see; a windmill or an oil derrick? If I'm not too old for it I'd like to re-train my career to work on those (Turbines) instead of my current vocation. Lol biggest surprise.. I'm NOT a green person or a liberal.
These windmills will become tourist attractions. There will be tour boats running out to them, filled w/ tourists. This has been the case in other spots as well. These windmills will be good for the economy and for the environment.
Hasn't anyone heard of visual pollution and inefficient wind mills are in creating energy? This may be better than oil rigs, which I also oppose, but putting windmills offshore is a really bad idea.
your an idiot. Couple hundred miles of coast & beaches in NC and your against a couple of wind turbines? I bet you voted for Obama..
I think its fantastic, the windmills, providing us a sustainable energy source that does not harm the environment and also provides a base for coral reef formation, why do we allow the nay Sayers who could never be satisfied with anything that's for the good of the all? Its a win win situation.
They are much better than an oil rig and all the pollution that comes with that industry from drilling it, refineing it, and burning it in our cars, let alone the continual mishaps. this should have been done LONG ago. we will be looked up to as a leader, in technology, saving the environment, and producing alternative fuels and becoming less dependent on oil and old technology
I have to strongly disagree with you on this point, the reasoning is simple, wind generators is the same as the solar panel fields that have went up since 2008, if this is the answer then private enterprise would be the one's doing it for a "profit", not for subsidies! If you are talking about oil platforms then there is your answer, investors are doing it for profit, there again not for subsidie's! we could shut down oil companies by the end of the week if we all chose not to drive a vehicle, myself, I'm going to keep driving, it's to far to walk to the grocery store.
How can you justify the visual pollution of windmills by comparing them to oil rigs? Wind mills will disturb marine life and are terribly inefficient? The better alternative is neither oil rigs or wind mills offshore of NC. You are not well informed about the so called "new technology, which produces energy at a much higher cost.
