Did we loose WWII and nobody told me?
higher premiums for smokers or those overweight was included. It's a done deal when that is enacted.
Then common sense would tell you that end of life discussions when typically you are costing Medicare the MOST money are both necessary AND a cost savings.
In many cases the cost of the last year of care exceeds that spent by Medicare from the day you retire till one year before your eventual death.
And in all honesty the cigarette tax in NC is still $1 per pack less than the average in the U.S. and should be raised !! Romney did this very thing in Mass to help pay for Romneycare there. Cigs currently cost an average of $7 per pack. Smoking rates are down significantly and costs related to smoking "care" are showing signs of dropping.
We eat a lousy diet. We smoke too much and drink too much and we don't exercise. Yet we expect $10 co-pays when we go to the doctor's. We also expect to be kept alive even though it's not in our best interest and our quality of life will be severely impacted.......
I've seen the enemy and he is us........
But after the Supreme Court ruling it's a done deal unless Congress grows some testicles and resolves to amend it significantly.
Maybe Columbus County is the unhealthiest because it seems to be the fast food capital in NC. In Whiteville alone ther are 2 mcdonalds, 1 burger king, 1 hardees, 1 wendys, 1 KFC, 1 bojangles, 1 arbys, 1 pizza hut, 1 papa johns, 1 dominoes, 2 chinese buffets, 3 subways and a couple more oriental takeouts. This does not count the locally owened pizza places.
And if you drink or don't walk a mile a day or ever eat a hamburger or red meat or are ever caught speeding. So where does it end? This is nothing but Nazi-ism.
...people who intentionally maintain healthy lifestyles are supposed to foot the bill for those that can't resist the urge to continually inhale carcinogenic particulates into their lungs and those that cannot resist the urge to stuff twinkies down their gullet by the pound, regardless of what is does to their weight?
These two behaviors ARE controllable. They are also very large contributors to excessive health care costs to include cancer, pulmonary disease and heart disease among just a few.
This has to do with MONEY, not "nazi-ism" as you term it. If you're going to use that term, try to understand what it means!
(1) Why is this not considered bullying? Picking on the fat kid? Maybe the schoolkids are learning to pick on others by following the examples of our leaders.
(2) If you are going to punish people, why not drinkers? Something is wrong with the logic which says you can be drunk, just don't overeat.
The smokers and overweight should not have to pay a higher premiums unless alcohol users have to pay higher premiums also.
I totally agree that alcohol and drug users should be included. I am
disgusted hearing about smokers and overweight people. This is
not the publics concerns. The government is trying to have too much
control on people and their private situations. BACK-OFF
The smokers and the overweight people should be the ones who pay the higher premiums. You shouldn't punish people for the detrimental choices that others make to put themselves at risk.
Yeah... Let’s single out minorities of different groups and stigmatize, exclude and penalize them so we can be sure to know which group e don’t approve of... While we're at it let’s make them wear yellow stars marked "Juden" too. That way we know exact who we should be offended at.
Discrimination in its highest form. Who are they to say who is too heavy, all depends on the individual. I can't believe they would even bring this up. What a way to slap someone in the face.
...of smoking and obesity on the condition of health and the resulting costs of the medical care required to support those behaviors. It's very substantial and someone has to pay for it, so why not the one's that own the behavior and refuse to change it?
There ARE choices. They're called "smoking cessation" and "dieting".
the White House occupant. His mandatory health care includes both provisions.
