Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
If I rememeber correctly, do History books still show people holding guns, fighting? Must burn those also... Reprimand the school system for having those in the classroom, for the kids to have to read, and see, or has someone cut those pictures out, or covered them up? We are the ones that have put these people in charge, and we still complain... maybe we are the DA's!
The proper procedure is to put the catalog inside a bigger textbook so the teacher can't see it.
I support background checks, because guns don't kill people, people kill people, which is why we need background checks on people. I do, however, support gun ownership, including concealed carry, and anyone who feels a want/need to do so I have no problem with. And I think this reaction is absolutely silly. Knowledge is power. The more you know about guns, how they operate, types of guns, etc., the more likely an individual is to be able to competently handle their firearms. Knowledge is power.... sounds like a motto even a school could endorse!
The reaction of authorities to this student looking at a sports magazine is nothing short of moronic.
Watch these two videos and you'll see why this is happening.
Teachers/schools are the useful idiots of a bigger picture.
Home schooling is the only way to defeat this destruction of American freedom.
How can u comment on issues u don't have full info on. This is obviously one side of the story. My child goes to trask and this parent didnt report the truth. He changed the story to cause an uproar. As a parent I'm glad these steps were taken, especially due to all the recent school shootings. So u guys keep on blaming the school system, I think them for my child safety.. Believe half of what u hear on TV..anyone with common sense can tell it has to be more to the story...
...need to lighten up! There are just too many fun things in life to be this jumpy!
I heard the term "reprimanded"? I have no problem with notifying the Resource Officer, but simply looking at a sporting equipment catalog that includes guns is not an offensive act.
This argument can go so many different ways, is it the same in appropriateness as an adult magazine at school. No. I don't think so. While I am not an avid gun owner and the rise in school shootings has made me more aware of gun issues than at any other time in my personal history. My gut instinct on this one is one of over reaction. Would the school reacted the same way if the student was looking at a military history book, magazine, or other periodical. Will students in the future be reprimanded for reading books about World War I with pictures of guns with knives built in. When we do not react in the smartest most appropriate the good points that could have been made are completely gone. I realize this is a bit rambling; however, there are what feels to be an infinite number of sides to be considered. Isn't the lesson we all want to teach our children is that guns can be and are dangerous in untrained or unstable hands. I do not know anyone who does not want their children to be safe always.
The difference between a sportsman's catalog and an adult magazine is that anyone can buy or receive a sportsman's catalog but you have to be 18 or older to buy an adult magazine.
Very sensible outlook from a non gun owner.
Very well said!
There are NOT many sides to this issue. There is zero wrong with a young boy with an interest in outdoor gear doing something productive on the way to school. Considering the area, I think this young man has a better chance of getting lessons in firearm safety then most highly urban areas.
You have got to be kidding??!! This country is so screwed up. Really??
Wow, you got it right! Whats sad is that this country is beyond fixing!
Some have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous--common sense has gone out of the window and this is NOT good for any one.
I have just been WAITING for a forum like this:
WHAT IS NEXT? ARE WE GOING TO BURN, DESTROY AND/OR OTHERWISE DESTROY ALL CARS BECAUSE SOMEONE WAS INJURED IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT? NO ONE HAS SUGGESTED THIS BECAUSE OF THE GREAT INCONVENIENCE IT WOULD CAUSE AND SOME WASHINGTON OBAMA NUT MIGHT GO THERE!
IT WOULD ALSO CAUSE A GREAT INCONVENIENCE FOR ME--MY LIFE--IF I DO NOT HAVE A GUN TO PROTECT MYSELF ON MY SMALL BUT VERY, VERY ISOLATED LITTLE FARM.
AND I COULD HAVE USED SOME HELP RECENTLY WHEN TWO WORKMEN FORCED ME TO WRITE A VERY LARGE CHECK BECAUSE I WAS ALONE ON MY ISOLATED FARM AND NO ONE COULD HEAR ME EVEN SCREAM--THEY EVEN HAD THE NERVE TO CALL A FEW DAYS LATER TO COME BACK FOR MORE. A POLICEMAN WHO CAME OUT AND CHECKED AROUND MY HOUSE A FEW DAYS LATER FOUND THAT MY SECURITY LIGHTS IN THE BACK HAD BEEN SWITCHED OFF AT THE BACK DOOR!!!
I HAVE NEVER PICKED UP MY GUN YET BUT I KNOW IT IS THERE IN CASE THE CRAZIES COME BANGING!!!
BY THE WAY, I INTEND TO OBTAIN A TASER...WHY, BECAUSE I BELIEVE I COULD HANDLE IT BETTER WITH MY HAND STRENGTH LIMITATIONS.
I have to register my car, don't you? I also have to register my dog, don't you? What's so wrong with holding accountable those who would choose to own a deadly weapon?
I also think it's stupid to suspend children from school for playing cops and robbers or pointing a chicken finger at another kid and saying "bang." If a kid's misbehaving, call his parents and spank him until he gets the message, but teachers need to stop picking on kids because they can't push adult gun owners around. If handling a gun makes you wet yourself, that's fine, but don't try to disarm me because you can't man-up. If a burglar breaks into my house, I want to make sure that if the cops are hauling off a body when they get there 30 minutes later, it's his, not mine.
I agree with everything you say. Too bad you demonize me for wanting some degree of accountability for ownership of a deadly weapon. I support background checks for people, so that there is some degree of accountability for ownership of a deadly weapon. If you know it can be traced back to you, you'll be more mindful of where your firearms are, lest one fall into the wrong hands and be traced back to you. It would encourage a gun owner to report a lost or stolen firearm knowing that a crime caused with said weapon could be traced back to you.
Unfortunately commonsense has been removed from schools, government and many corporations.
Tax the heck out of smokers, beat up on fat people, take my Pepsi, take away my gun, but ya never hear anything passionate about doing something about beer and alcohol consumption.
