Employers offering minimum-wage jobs won't hire people with college degrees because we're over-qualified. The jobs we are qualified for are non-existant in North Carolina at this time. The only option is to collect unemployment, try to save (ha) and MOVE OUT OF THIS STATE! Kansas and Nebraska have plenty of jobs for the college-educated. Just have to adjust to living in the mid-west.
Sadly a lot of people have made more money sitting at home on their behinds than most of the jobs offer to pay and have taken advantage of the system. They SAY they spend 50 hours a week looking for work but that can't be true that they can't find ANYTHING. There are jobs out there....you may have to lower your current standard of living...give up cable or eating out or your iphone...or even move to another city...but there are jobs out there. In this Age of Entitlement we are bombarded with system milkers and they have said why should I give up my good unemployment check to take such a menial non-fulfilling job? Two years looking for a job and NOTHING? Really.....and we have let this happen for too long.
I'm willing to bet that if the people riding unemployment didn't get benefits, they would find jobs to support themselves a lot faster. We have enabled people to say "I'm not gonna take a job for less money than I get in unemployment." I know seasonal waiters that get 500.00 a week every winter. Do you think they look for jobs? They would if they didn't get the money.
I DONT KNOW WERE YOU GET YOUR IMFO FROM ... BUT PLEASE SHOW ME ONE WAITER WHO MAKES $500 A WEEK ,, I KNOW A NURSE WHO WAS LET GO FROM WORK BECAUSE THE NURSING HOMW NEED TO CUT BACK ,, AND SHE ONLEY MAKES A LITTLE OVER $400 A WEEK ,, AND THE TOP WAGES TO MAKE ON UNEMPLOYMENT IS $450 A WEEK .. SO YOUR STORY IS JUST THAT 'A STORY'' TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD,,, PEOPLE WOULD GO TO WORK IF THERE WERE JOBS HERE THAT PAID ,,, I BLAME THE LOCAL GOVERMENT AND THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA FOR NOT GETTING JOBS HERE AND AROUND WILMINGTON .. SO TAKE YOUR STORY AND YOUR LIE AND PUT IT WERE THE SUN DONT SHINE !!!
In my opinion and I'm sure others; it should be extended. What are those people suppose to do for rent, mortgage, food, utilities? I would think others who voted on here not to extend wouldn't want to be in that situation.
Mc'Donalds, Walmart, Burger KIng, and many other such entities are hiring. Get trained on the job.
The problem is so many do not want to work as it will threaten Food Stamps, SEction 8, Free Cell Phone and other entitlement programs.
I agree. The economy is in the tank with jobs hard to find. A lot of these folks have children. It's not as if everyone getting unemployement benefits is doing so for a free ride. They either get unemployement checks or they'll be at Soc. Services seeking help. We're going to pay one way or the other.
What are people supposed to do? Go get a job. Get two or three if need be. Find people that will pay under the table like they do the illegal immigrants and try working hard instead of screwing off.
Stop being lazy, get off your duffs and get to work! If it were easy the entitlement recipients would be doing it! OH...shame on me...they already are!!!
My husband has worked since he was 14 years old. Every position he has held he improved and had glowing employer evaluations. He lost his job at the beginning of the year and now at 58 no one wants to hire him. He has now taken a class to START a career but still with only a few years of service left, companies do not value his work ethic OR expierence. LAZY??? NO! Frustrated YES!
Why shouldnt we continue unemployment benefits for those who have lost their jobs??? We are supporting people with food stamps and welfare who have no intention of working!....WIC benefits to moms who breed like rabbits and baby daddy on da street and our tax dollars support them! come on now!
THOSE PROGRAMS NEED TO BE SERIOUSLY OVER HAULED TO. ALONG WITH SOME OTHERS.MEDICAID PAYING FOR SINGLE GIRLS TO HAVE BABIES. PAY FOR ONE. ANY BODY IS ALLOWED ONE MISTAKE. AFTER THAT, IT SHOULD BE THEIR PROBLEM. BUT HEY, ITS A LIVING.RIGHT?
I believe that the benefits should be extended for at least until the job souces improves greatly in all catagories. These people have worked hard in their lives and are trying hard to find work to support their families without the use of other government funded programs. Why would our government want to put more burdon on these programs and take away the pride these people hold onto to find work? They should do it as if it were for them also. If the government had to be on unemployment, its a guarentee that the extention would be approved! And thats a FACT!!!
You clearly have not been paying attention to anything going on in the last 20 years. If you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on Paul's vote. Which keeps the politicians in office. Obama does not care if these people ever find a job. He only wants their vote and for them to depend on the almighty government for everything. Power, it's all about the more power for the ruling class and government. It's really not that hard to put the pieces together.
