I may be bias regarding the 1982 team, having played football during their era and knew all those guy personally.....Ok,Kenny had a great NBA career and probably could have had the same in the NFL. Clyde was the least talented of the bunch and led the NFL in sacks...great NFL career. Not listed, Ronald Jones could leap out of the gym and was compare to David Thompson...also played safety on the football team. And yes I have save the best for last...Rondro Boney was clearly the best HS athlete to come out of the port city(including MJ).... he was like all state or All American in every sport he played. If my memory does not fail me, they beat MJ in the regionals that year. As for the new guys(2007), I only saw Ty Walker when Wake Forest came to play Maryland...and James Beatty when he played in the big east against Georgetown.Beatty was average, but Ty was the softest 7 footer that I have seen...And that is painful to say about another wildcat.
the 1982 team over came alot road blocks that was put in it's way. first starting off with a new coach that they did not approve of when he was hired(Bill Wade). losing it's best defensive player and best jump shooter for the last 11 games of the season(Andre Boynton). this team was 25-0 at the end of the season and still had to travel to Fayettville for the first round of the state playoffs( they were handicapped by questionable calls from the officials and lost in double overtime) other members of this team of 11 players to play in college were Clarance Scott(VMI) Charles Gause( Belmont Abby) Jack Turnbill(ECU) and the javee players who were moved up All ACC linebacker Jimmy Simmons and ALL CIAA line backer Leroy Gause. this team was alot better than what people may know you really had to be there to see it to understand what they could do in BasketBall and Football and all 5 starters in basketball also started in football( and became the first team coached by joe miller to make the state playoff)young Google these wildcats and get an A in History.
I will have to say The 2007 team will be the best team. They had more size and depth. The competition level was more difficult around that time. This team had a college looking team and seem capable to even compete with a college team. Most of that team should of went to play at the next level.
Hey Mr Know or Laney guy! Please stop it already! You guys had your chance with him and countless others. You blew it! I think you guys should be more upset over football this season! How could you guys not send those players you had from football to Division 1 schools? Keep it up ,that's why nobody leaves the schools here for you! But you guys have them bail for anywhere else! It's always been that way! Learn to accept it in the Land of the forgotten!
None of the teams. A team has to be one that has sacrificed together to meet a coommon goal. These teams were put together by recruiting and such. So there fore not teams at all. One year of a bunch of traitors that want to do something special for themselves. SO, NOT A TEAM>
Why individualize the teams? There is a roster for every team last time I looked! Look em up! Dont call out certain players because everyone who was on a team contributed in their own way! Why even have this poll? Everyone that was on a state team contributed in their own way! Lets just celebrate our Wildcats now and previous years and not call our certain players!
Celebrate, the All County All Stars. not Kitty Kats
Here you are again. I guess great minds think alike. That darn and company keeps coming up. Whether you believe it or not. There are better players and there are the rest of the players. Yes, your right you can't win any of the games with just the all star players. But without them, you are just an average team at best. A team of average players makes an average team. You have to have the all stars to be a good team. You may not like that they get most if not all the attention, but this is true in life. If a doctor saves a patients life, you thank the doctor because he is the all star in the room. You don't go thank the custodian that cleaned the room before the surgery. If a lawyer wins a big case, the secretary doesn't get her/his name in paper. The doctor and the lawyer know that they need the custodian and the secretary, just like the all stars know they need their teammates to be successful. But none of it happens without the all star. This is sports and life in a nut shell.
So just enjoy being the and company and know that the all stars know your important.
About the questions above. I believe any of the three teams can beat any of the others and all three are great basketball teams. But, I personally believe the 2007 team is the better team. If everyone played their best game, the 2007 team is the more well rounded team. They could transition, run half court sets, they had size (height and weight), they played incredible defense, unbelievable shooting, depth and the ability to drive to the hole.
The 2007 teams rotation was impressive.
James Beatty - basketball at Rutgers
Rakeem Wilson - basketball at Cape Fear Community College
Cedric Baker - football at App. State
Nick Becton - football at Virginia Tech
David Pellom - basketball at George Washington
Ty Walker - basketball at Wake Forest
George Bryan - football at NC State
Darryl Pulliam - football at Winston Salem State
Yeah, that is impressive. However, that only shows that the school is doing a better job now of getting the guys prepared for college. All the guys on the 1982 team were Div. 1 talent, but only two made it. Those two had long pro careers. Ok, take me for example. I started tailback on the 1983 team that won the championship. But, I dropped out shortly after the season ended. Don't feel sorry for me, I later got my GED, graduated law school, passed Maryland Bar. Today, I have my own law office and am doing quite well.
How do you think the players that sat the bench being replaced by all the recruits REALLY FEEL coach.
From the StarNews
“I couldn’t agree more with Kadeem’s comment earlier this week; this win goes to all the players and coaches. Everyone played out their roles throughout the season. The championship game was a culmination of incredible effort and work ethic and I’m extremely proud of each player,” said Coach Angel.
@wildcatpride-Im so glad you aren't coaching any teams! Kadeem said it best!
"Thanks to Coach Lynch for chasing me around school making me go to class. You wild cats should be thankful. He would have been ineligible had it not been for Lynch doing such a great job.
