Didn't they just get a pay raise last year? There are so many companies putting a freeze on pay raises, why isn't the city as concerned about where the money is coming from for these raises? Oh, that's right, they don't have to worry about where the money is coming from, they can just raise taxes...again.

City employees got a $1,000 bonus last year, not a pay increase. By the time taxes and other deductions were taken out, that $1,000 bonus equaled about $600. Prior to the bonus, employees had not received any increase in 3 years. During that time, employee health premiums rose sky high and the city cut back on their contribution to 401(k) and 457 funds. You may be thinking of County employees who received a 1% pay increase last year.

Since I am downtown almost every day, I can reccomend two city crews that definitely deserve raises. 1. The lady and her crew who keep our flowers and shrubs looking great. 2. The crew that cleans up downtown every morning after the drunks trash it.
Those two crews are an asset to the city. I am sure there are many others.
Give them the money!
