What do you think about Wilmington City Council considering $1.2 million for city employee bonuses and a party?

!.2 million To Pat YOUrself on the back???????

Have we lost our minds in this city. Your children are dropping out of school due to lack of awesome art programs, scholarships,EDUCATION,and THE POOR TEACHERS barely get paid enough as it is to stay and teach our children!!! If anyone needs a raise or a bonus in this city, it's the TEACHERS!!!!! Let's not forget a total lack of Community Recources for young men and women who want to not get pregnant or be responcible.THESE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE. They are the ones your jobs will be going to ,your future is in their hands and you don't want to invest anything in them and you wonder why the elderly are losing thier health care, their Social Security,Their respect and freedom. We also need advocacy for the elderly and the Special needs community. Children innately want to do the right thing if we keep limiting their ability to do that through lack of providing resources, we will sadly be facing our own demise as a culture.

Give it to them!

These workers have not had raises for over three years. What has happened to our society in that we can work hard and do what we are asked to do and not get rewarded for our efforts. These are people like Firemen and Policemen and storm people that come out in any wheather to help you all. The states employees have not had a raise in over five years. The cost of living is going up every year. Even the town council in LELAND has voted themselves a 70% raise. Go figure. If they can do it anybody can! What if after three or five years you were not promoted or given raises? You sure wouldn't like it working in the private sector would you?

Employee raises

Sorry but Wilmington's roads are among the worst in North Carolina. That money is desperately needed to improve infrastructure, hopefully helping to fund more jobs. It's short-sighted to talk about raises and parties in this economic climate. Everyone ideally should get a raise, but let's face it: those people have jobs. Many do not have that luxury.

1.2 million

As a lifelong resident of wilmington, I am sure that the employees that had to take days off, and or lose their jobs due to cutbacks would take a bonus AND would rather have more hours or more employees, you know their workload has gone up. City Council wants to have a beer and boose party and give themselves a X-mas bonus. They all have made me sick for years and this adds to by disguist at politicts and goverment.

Bonus yes Party no

I do not have an issue the the employees receiving a bonus. They have not received a raise in over three years and have been working with less people. I do have an issue with the $7000.00 party. I am sure if you ask the employees about the party they will tell you thank you but the bonus is suffice.

bonuses and a party

i think its a good idea but i think the city and county workers including new hanover county schools maintenance dept and capefear public utilty worker should come together and get something to

And State employees as well!

And State employees as well! Teachers deserve it.

Now that the county & the

Now that the county & the city have both have gotten raises what about the cfpua we have not got a pay increase / bonus in almost 4 years.

reply to poll

CFPUA doesn't deserve any x-tra money. They a part of a public theft ring that preys on the water consumer.

Let me think on that for a second....

NO! Any other questions?

Bonuses

Many private sectors have not given out raises and bonuses since the down turn in the economy. This is not unusaul. I'm sure the county and city pay overtime to their workers so they are receiving compensation for their work. I've never heard of any company throwing a party as well. There are to many government workers in this country and when you think of the benefits that are paid out of the government from taxes, you wonder why we are broke.
