The elderly Wilmington man who was missing Tuesday has been found. But if he had been wearing a tracking bracelet, he might have been found a bit sooner. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office offers free tracking bracelets for people who have brain disorders like Alzheimer’s and autism. When caregivers notify the sheriff's office that the person is missing, authorities can use the tracking bracelet to find them, typically within 30 minutes. Lt. W.A. Hoehlein of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said, "This is such a good program so that those that would wonder off and get into a position that they would be in harms way be returned back especially in cases like in this time of the year when the temperatures at night drop down into the 20's." You do have to qualify to receive the free tracking bracelet. For more information call the Project Lifesaver coordinator at 910-798-4283.

Great Product

This is an awesome thing. I worked in a nursing home where a man went out a door between bed checks 11:00PM and 1:00AM and was lost for 3 days. When he was found, he didn't make it through the bitter winter's night. My heart sunk when I heard this story about the Wilmington man, I was grateful to know he was found. The older folks may lose their facilities but their are some that stay in tact such as opening doors and windows and even starting a car, they may not remember where to go but they can get going.

What a great program the

What a great program the Sheriffs Dept is offering. Anyone with elderly family members who suffer memory loss should contact them. A good service to the community. Thanks Sheriff Causey and your deputies for providing and staffing this much needed service.

Tracking Braclet

This is a wonderful item. My grandmother wondered from her home 3 years ago, at 430am. A local sheriff deputy found her walking along a dark road and found the braclet she was wearing and was able to return her home safe and sound. Don't hesistate getting this.
