Prosecutors: NC man shot victim 45 times

READ MORE:
JEFFERSON, N.C. -- Prosecutors say a man shot by his best friend 45 times lived through the first 32 shots. The Winston-Salem Journal reported that prosecutors highlighted the findings of pathologists at Freddie McDowell Jr.'s murder trial Thursday after defense testimony the 24-year-old man suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Authorities say McDowell killed 19-year-old Drew Howell at a mountain home in Wilkes County in June 2006. McDowell's attorney says he acted in self-defense and was abused as a child. But prosecutors showed photos of Howell, who was shot in the eyes, groin and chest with a .38-caliber revolver and pointed out McDowell cleaned the cabin before police arrived. Prosecutors are expected to give their closing arguments Friday. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

45 times?

i guess that if i had to shoot someone more than 32 times to kill him the last 13 were just to make sure

Victim Shot 45 Times

I have a .38 revolver. I'm trying to imagine what planet I'd have to be from to try to claim, with a straight face, that I reloaded it at least 8 times to put 45 bullets into someone...in self defense. Hmmm....

ATLEAST being key

ATLEAST being key words....but yes self defense makes you say what ??? looks like attorneys could have come up with a little better defense. Guess that is where the child abuse comes in. I cant imagine after someone having even say half those shots in them how much of a threat they could be. Sad poor guy to think it took 30 something shots to kill him. I think the killer intentionally was a bad shot maybe wanted the victim to suffer.

Who says it was eight times?

It could have been a two-shot derringer and he reloaded twenty-three times. It could have been a Thompson Contender and he reloaded forty-five times! Maybe he was just a REEEEALLLLY bad shot. "He kept moving your honor, so I kept shooting." I worked with an officer years ago who shot a suspect five times with a .357, after which the suspect threw down his weapon and shouted, "Okay, I give up. Don't shoot!" Before you sell your .38 and buy a .500 Smith, consider this: One round had removed the suspect's left earlobe and a good portion of the ear cartilage. One round gave him an impromptu appendectomy. One round was lodged in his right thigh. One round passed through his right shoulder. One round hit him in the left ankle, and that was a riccochet that had bounced off the pavement about three inches in front of his foot. This was at a range of about thirty feet, from a four-inch Model 19 Smith. A lot of the guys gave him grief, but not me. I had been involved in a night shooting, and already knew what that muzzle-blast does to your night vision. I only mentioned an obviously rotten FIRST shot to him, because when it's truly dark, that first shot is the only one you get before you go blind for ten to fifteen seconds. That's especially true with a revolver. Everyone I ever trained was required to fire on a darkened range, just to show them what it's like. Anyway, back to the case at hand....my money goes to nine reloads with a J-frame Smith? (Works out perfectly - 9x5!)

It would have been 46 times

It would have been 46 times but he ran out of bullets!
