Questions surround Bladen fire deaths


ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) -- Mystery surrounds a fire that killed two people in Bladen County Wednesday. Elizabethtown firefighters wouldn't say much, but they did call the fire, which killed a 12-year-old and an adult, suspicious. The SBI, ATF and Bladen County Sheriff's Department have taken over the investigation and are looking for a suspect.

It happened around 6 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters responded to a call at 1601 Peanut Plant Road in Elizabethtown. They were able to contain the fire within 15 minutes.

From the outside you can barely see the damage caused by the fire, which burned through the living room and kitchen, but when firefighters went inside they found the two victims in their living room. Both the 12-year-old and the adult were taken to the hospital.

Investigators would not identify the suspect or the victims. They are waiting for an autopsy to determine a the cause of their deaths. Neighbors say they believe three women were living in the house.
